Whether you are a professional or recreational cyclist, even if you do not meet your bike very often , the Rovinj bike paths are suitable for all, and you will certainly enjoy the ride along the nature greenery, forest park, and most beautiful beaches…

Here we will describe a few paths close to Ulika camping, that lead mostly along the coast. The bike paths are signed, so you can easily follow them.

From Ulika Camping to Rovinj town center

Starting from our camping if you turn left in direction of  Rovinj town center, after about 800 m you’ll see the sign for Villas Rubin bungalows, and then you turn left and drive about 500 m straight down to the sea. After that you turn right towards center.
The beginning of this path is mostly paved, with less clay areas. In the summer months the resort and beaches are crowded so it is necessary to drive slower and with more attention. The track is completely flat, without a rise and therefore appropriate for all ages.

The bike path continues 2 km mostly along the sea. You can take a short brake and enjoy the wonderful view of the Rovinj archipelago and the islets. The trail takes you along the popular Rovinj beaches Cuvi and Skaraba.

This part of the path is composed mostly of fine gravel and dirt. Although there are ups and downs, it is suitable for all ages. Along the entire length of the trail it is prohibited to the motor vehicle traffic. In summertime you can find several bars and restaurants open.

At the end of Skaraba beach, the path enters the “Zlatni Rt” forest park and continues with 3 km trails that intersect this protected natural park. The path is composed mostly of fine gravel and dirt, and with small ups and downs it is also suitable for all ages. You can continue along the coast and enjoy the sunshine and popular beaches Balsamake, Punta Corrente and Lone Bay where you can find a popular beach bar and water sport.
At one point of the path along the sea, you will get to the old quarry which now is a favourit climbing destination. The path to the quarry gets a bit hilly and rocky, and it is a bit difficult if you are not in a shape  But it is not a long way to the flat parts of the path, so you can walk this unit.
You can also choose a bit easier path – the main trail that cuts through the middle of the forest park and enjoy the deep shade of the pine forest. Here you will find a nice bar where you can refresh yourselves. This main path divides to several directions, to the coast and Lone bay, or straight through the park forest and the exit of the park which leads to the marina and town center, or towards another exit to the Monvi center.

Ulika Camping towards Cisterna beach

If you turn right from the Ulika camping, you will pass through Polari camping. Then you have the option to go right towards Villas Rubin and center Rovinj, or left along the coast through the naturist part of the camping. This way is a bit demanding and we do not recommend it, to children especially. At the end of the Polari camping you’ll pass the wooden path that connects this camping with Vestar camping. The trail is very narrow and very rough with many larger rocks. It is easiest to pass this part of the path on foot, keeping you from falling and possible injury.

Due to the nature of nudist camps, but also because of a more comfortable ride, we recommend you to choose another route. Before you enter Polari camping, you turn left by the carting track. This track is mostly fine gravel and passes through a low forest vegetation. There are no major climbs and therefor it is suitable for all. The last 150 m of the bike path to the Vestar camping passes the main road so be more careful.
Before the entrance to the camping, you turn left, and the path leads you all the way to the Palud swamp. Pay attention on the bike path signs.

This section is punctuated with a few bike trails with a total length of about 3 km. The paths are made of small gravel with more ups, so it is not suitable for children under 10 years.  Unfortunately in the summer months motor vehicles traffic is alowed, so we recommend caution.
Riding along the coast you will get to the Cisterna beach, and close to the bay and cape Gustinja which is, because of a valuable oak, a kind of “forest vegetation reserve.”

The Palud swamp is a “special ornithological reserve.” The brackish water and lush vegetation attract many bird species, either for nesting or in passing. You can ride a bike all along the swamp and a special privilege provides a view point where you can watch the birds. On this part of the trail ride calmly, quietly and slowly, so your presence would not disturb the birds. This part of the trail is closed to motor vehicles.
From the Palud swamp the bike path takes you to the Palud bay, the cape and church of St. Damian to the St. Paul Bay.

Some pearls in the history of the park

The beach is part of the park forest settled between 1890 and 1910 by the Count Georg Huetteroth who was planning here an exclusive resort and climatic swimming center.
Rare trees in Europe have been imported here from Mexico, America and Japan, and particularly valuable are the cedars planted in a Jewish star.
The project was left unfinished because of the premature Huetterrodt death in 1910.

Zlatni Rt is a free city beach,

with no rules about where and how to settle down.
You will find several points where you can rent beach chairs, bicycles, or drink coffee, juices, cocktails and eat sandwich or food on the grill. These are the most interesting points for younger people.
The rest of the beach is very quiet, suitable for children and families.
Large grassy meadows and forests are ideal for playing and resting in the natural shade.
Gravel and pebbles that gradually stretch towards the depths of the sea are suitable entrances for inexperienced swimmers and beginners.
The low rocks do not present any barriers to entry into the sea, and as they are flat it will be enough to take only a towel to lie on them.

Why to go to this beach?

Personally we would choose this beach because it is well decorated and maintained, quiet, natural and part of a nature park envied by many cities.
We would also choose this beach if we like to do free climbing as at Zlatni Rt there is a very nice rock and it will be particularly relaxing to have a swim in the clear sea after a climb. But you can read more about it here.

How to get to the beach Zlatni Rt?

From the campsite Ulika you’ll have several options to get to the beach Punta corrente:

1. with the car – the distance from the camp Ulika to the parking lot entrance to the park is  3.7 km ca. We marked the path with the blue line on the map, and if it is necessary to remember that there are only three left turns. If you choose this way than from the parking place to the beach you’ll have from 10 to 15 minutes to walk inside the park to find your perfect place on the beach.
2. by bike – there are several routs from 3 to 4 km long. You can choose to follow any path along the beach or to shorten the by the maintained trails through the woods. By the bike path along the sea you can stop anywhere to swim and it is a nice ride that can drive you all to the old town center. It is an easy road also for who is not in shape and very nice with kids as there are no cars and it has much shadow. We’ve marked it with green on the map.

RECEPTION

Within the reception, we have added a new info-point, which connects restaurant bar and reception, and where you will be able, while sipping a refreshing drink, to get all the information about the camping and surrounding.
For all the guests who won’t bring their own laptops, there will be a computer with free Internet at their disposal.

RESTAURANT

This summer, the restaurant will be open also in the morning, throughout the day, from 08:00 till 24:00. You will be able to enjoy the morning coffee with a rich breakfast. In the offer there will also be a variety of desserts, from cakes to ice-creams and cups, and cold salads. You’ll also be able to order a “take away” food and drinks.

CHILDREN’S CORNER

A small corner in the beginning of the camping arranged for kids, to play and have fun, we have fenced and additionally arranged. The playground is now more interesting and safer for your youngest. A colorful castle -fenced area, painted wooden house and inner  facilities will delight your children, and give you an extra security.

PLOTS

The plots in the beginning of the camping, from no. 20 – 27, have been expanded and increased, and are now suitable also for campers and trailers.
For the plots no. 21, 22, 26 and 27 we arranged a parking lot on a side, in order to allow more space on a very plot.
We marked with numbers all the plots, so you can easily find your place.
By the plots no. 2 – 4 we added an extra lighting.

The camping paths, from the entrance to the campsite, to the area by the sanitary and restaurant, and between the plots, we have expanded and arranged to make it easier to move and maneuver your vehicles.

In 2010 we won the Zoover Award as the BEST CAMP IN ROVINJ.
Than we were RECOMANDED BY ZOOVER for the 2011 and as it can be seen from the current rating we should get also the Zoover award for the best camp in Rovinj in 2011.

In mid-September we got also the Slovenian award as the BEST SMALL CAMPING IN ISTRIA in 2011 within the 9th Camping & caravanning festival in Ljubljana. It was organized by the magazine Avto-Dom and the web sites www.avtokampi.si and www.dj-slovenija.si. The voting lasted all summer and we were pleasantly surprised with the results. We use this opportunity to heartily thank all of our Slovenian guests for their vote.

Located in the heart of Istria, above the Mirna River, this ancient town is proud of its tradition, history and art. In 1965. Grožnjan was proclaimed as The City of Art as confirmed by about thirty galleries and studios. Many artists found their home here, and revived this town, and rescued it from oblivion.

Magic stone streets are rich with cultural-entertainment events such as concerts of classical music, jazz festival, Ex Tempore art event, and numerous exhibitions.

Many vineyards and olive groves are a source of quality wine and olive oil, which is why Groznjan is admitted to the Association “City of Olive Oil” and “City of Wine”.

Traditional specialties such as prosciutto ham, asparagus, venison,can be tasted in agritourism, taverns and restaurants in downtown and surrounding areas.

Beautiful view from the city walls expands to Cicarija mountain, Motovun, Mirna River valley and Novigrad, and if you take a walk by the hills, the paths will take you to other small towns, across meadows, forests, followed with birds singing and fresh scent of Mediterranean vegetation.

The summer months turn Groznjan into a living stage of a constant events that remain unforgettable impressions and memories.

Starting from Rovinj towards the center of Istria, Buzet, and wonderful Roc, which is certainly worth visiting, the roads will be more and more narrow and dizzy climbing the hill on which a medieval town Hum is located.

According to legend, Hum was created by accident. Building the cities in the valley of the Mirna River, the Giants did not have much stones left, and with a few remnants they decided to build a miniature city.
The Double Door from 16th century, make the entrance to the town, after which you will find yourself on a small square from the 11th century. The parish church of the Assumption of the Blessed Virgin Mary is located above the square, with steeple tower that dominates the town. Beside the church there is a lodge where every year on the Day of Hum, June 11th , the Prefect is elected.
According to ancient croatian custom, dating from the 12th, 13th century, which is kept only in Hum, where today lives 20-odd people, instead of circling the names on the ballots, the Prefect is elected by the men of the parish, in a way that each notch his voice into a wooden stick (rabos), and the winner is the one who gets the most notchs.
The Prefect is obligated to take care of the parish, settling disputes between citizens, imposing penalties.

After the formal election, a folk festival follows, with live music and local specialties, together with a familiar Hum wine and brandy.

Within the city walls the  Minnority Connection party is also held, with performances of several DJs, making an unforgettable atmosphere for the Day of Hum continue until the early morning hours.
